Working on the fuel system and the wiring...
This is the connection diagram
I'm going to use for this setup...
Using this fuel pressure regulator at the firewall
for the initial feed into the fuel rails...
Checking our the fit of the fuel rails on the plenum...
Fitted An-8 inlet and An-6 return line fittings
to the oem Chevy fuel lines...
That small return line PR has a vacuum line
fitting that will be left open to atmospheric pressure for now...
The underside, a new stock Chevy return line
pressure regulator was installed...
The inlet PR was fitted with An-8 and An-6 fittings as required....
At this point that vacuum fitting on the top of the PR
will be left open to atmospheric pressure, that
can be changed later to an intake manifold
connection if needed...
Fuel inlet feed on the left,
controlled pressure feed to the fuel rails on the right,
return line fittings underneath....
Here's a better shot....
Looking for the right size bolts for those fuel rails to the plenum
and noticed the plenum only had 4 rusty bolts, so dug out
some ss allen head bolts and washers, and installed them...
I've always had good luck with a copper anti-seize when using
ss bolts in aluminum heads...
Laid out all the connections for the main PR valve....
teflon tape on all threads, done carefully so no
teflon tape can get into the fuel system....
Ready to hang the PR valve....
This pic doesn't show the bracket behind the PR,
but it came with the PR, and is holding it up....
Cut and fitted fuel hoses....
Kind of a temporary hookup until I can get the fenders back on...
And, no, that return line is not as close to the header as it looks in this pic....
I may have to move the inlet line to the center connection
where that plug is, but that's pretty easy,
and I'll fab a clamp to hold that fuel filter
down on the inner fender....
I won't put the fuel injectors in until just before I start it up
for the first time....
I'm going to have to dig around and find out what all these ports are for,
These four are on the left side of the plenum...
It looks like that large port is open to the crankcase,
and if you look at the next pic, an old pic of the original
motor, it looks like it is a crankcase recirculation setup,
might be worth keeping that....
But I might plumb it into a crankcase vent tube down to the road,
that would work also...
The other two small ports I think are just vacuum ports,
one from the old motor was marked as a brake booster port...
These two are on the right side...
The GM shop manual lists them as a vacuum connection
for the fuel pressure regulator vacuum port, and
the other one is for an "Evaporative Emission
Canister Purge Solenoid Valve"
I'll probably leave the fuel pressure regulator vacuum ports
open to the atmosphere, and just plug these holes for now...
This one is on top of the front, right corner of the plenum...
Here's 7 more old pix of the original motor,
freshly pulled out of the wrecked '93 Camaro Z28, LT1
The tape I'm holding up is marked "brake booster"...
I have no idea what this is for...
These two ports on the right side are vacuum ports
that I'll just plug for now....
I wish I knew what this device was for...
These ports in the rear of the plenum were for
EGR (exhaust gas recirculation), and I had blocked
them off earlier as I will not need them.
More Later....
