Continue fitting together the fuel and exhaust systems,
and cleaning up the floor underside for fresh undercoating...
I cut, fit and welded some long body glass packs to the headers:
Hung 'em in a tree, cleaned 'em, then hi temp black paint...
Followed that with high temp silver, and put 'em back in the frame...
Decided to just hang 'em back there off the frame top
using some 1" x 3/8" flat strap I had, and used some
3/8"-18 flat head screws, countersunk to maximize the clearances
brtween the backets and the bottom of the car body....
Drilled and tapped the top of the frame rails to match...
Some locktite on the screws to make sure they stay tight...
I think this will work just fine....
Now I need to decide if I just want turnouts right in front of the rear wheels,
or run the pipes all the way to the rear bumper....
As the floors were repaired a piece at a time, there was lots of
cleanup required underneath, so I have been under there on a creeper,
with my head covered, a breathing mask, nasty dirty work...
This is one of the rear wheel tubs I widened, now cleaned up, it was pretty messy,
now it will get seam sealer on all weld joints, then undercoated...
Messy job, seam sealing and then undercoating, didn't take any pix...
But that part of the job is done....
These fuel lines are inside the frame to protect them from any side collisions
in the event of a severe accident. With the fuel pump in the tank, these lines
would probably be pressurized in an accident, so I want them protected...
But they are too close to the exhaust....
So I decided to wrap them in protective tape....
Pulled them off of the frame and started wrapping them with a 50/50 overlap,
nice and tight with ss tie wire wherever needed to keep them snug....
I had to 'adjust' the size of the hangers openings to fit the larger size,
still used some rubber hose under each clamp....
I did this also on my '55 gasser project, "Patches", it worked out just fine....
More Later....
