62 FL Chop Rebuild 17
Continuing work on brakes, exhaust and wiring
The new 12 volt generator has a built in regulator,
so the old 6 volt regulator was removed from the
front of the rear fender...
And a new hydraulic actuated rear brake light switch installed there.
Picked up a 3/16"x 40" steel brake line and fit it to the master cylinder
for the rear brake....
Ran it back along the top of the frame rail...
And to the brake light switch...
Measurements for the other side to the brake cylinder
was 34", picked up a 30" line but it was too short,
as expected, still thinking about how I want to do that side...
I'm also concerned about that single bolt mount
and the amount of vibration this bike has,
that bracket needs reinforcement or it will break off...
But I went around to the other side,
and started a 30" line out of the bottom port
on this 4 way hydraulic junction block....
Bent it around to get plenty of clearance from the chain....
And left it butted out near the rear brake...
Bent a piece of 8" long tubing around the back end
of the frame to give me movement room in the brake line
when the rear wheel axle has to be adjusted for the chain wear....
Pulled that section of brake line off and cut and flared it...
Remember that this is a double flare system...
And clean and defrag the end cut before flaring....
It connects up quite nicely, and if there's a problem, I only have to
rework that last 8" of tubing....
A closer look...
That 8" brake line loop will easily adjust
with the axle to the rear as the chain wears....
Back to the exhaust system....
A buddy contributed some new mufflers to the project....
Pulled everything apart and made some initial cuts...
Did a little polishing, the old stuff is still quite solid
and cleaned up nicely....
I need to lengthen the front pipe, I could have
cut it up near the head, but decided to cut lower down...
Got a nice straight shot out of that front cylinder...
The rear pipe is going to take a little more work I think...
I need to work it so the kicker clears the pipe and muffler....
Well, it's a start....
Maybe I should just shorten that front pipe and just weld the muffler on here ??
Nawww, I gotta try to do this "right"...
Whatever that is....
Fabricated some brackets, and strapped them to the bottom
frame rail, and tried to hang the mufflers so minimal fab
work is required on the exhaust piping to get them done....
Considering sliding this muffler back a little and adding a little more pipe,
but it's pretty close to where I want it....
Measured the angle of the front muffler/frame here,
6 degrees, want to make the rear muffler the same....
That's going to take a little more fab work to get it right....
I hope I'm really up for this....
When I pulled the offset drive Morris Mag off the shelf,
where it was waiting for another project, I needed to replace it,
so I ordered another one for that other project....
Even though it was well packed in styrofoam and
well packaged, the Post Office must have used it
as a football, the cap was busted in a bunch of pieces!
It was covered by Post Office insurance, let's see if that
really works, or if it's just another Gov't scam !!
More Later....
