62 FL Chop Rebuild 28
Let's Get That Thing Fired Up!!!!
Here's a couple of the latest pix....
I need to work on that front fender bracket, but
will probably just put it on the road w/o the front fender,
afterall, I ran it that way for many years with I was younger....
At one time, when I was packing a lady around on that p-pad,
I had made up a larger seat that fit right over the pad for a more comfy ride,
and a tall pad that slid down over the sissy bar, it was a fairly comfy
ride, so I was told many times, never rode there myself....
I've got a glass bullet tail light lens that doesn't fit,
just slightly too large at the base, still looking at how to use it...
Have a spare old tail light I can work with to make it fit....
Back to the project....
3/8" copper washer from Napa
I'm going to reuse those rubber added metal washers above....
And the 3/8" needed some TLC to properly fit the 10 mm banjo bolt...
Got a good, tight fit....
Put it back together with the rubberized steel washers....
Ah Ha, No Leaks....
Now the side timing port plug on the left, the threads are repaired to a pipe size,
3/8" pipe is what I recall but that was years ago....
The plug on the left is oem HD the right is my pipe plug....
I have a threaded steel washer and a nylon washer and it fits the modified
case hole perfectly...
Here's a good shot....
Ah, Yes, this is good....
Put a 5/16" brass barbed 90 on the upper hose....
Looks a lot better now....
Meanwhile, back to the carb....
Since I had sealed the float mounting screw with shellac,
and later found that it deteriorated in E10 gasoline, I had to
try to clean that up....
The top of the mounting screw....
Pulled the float out and turned it over....
I need to clean this stuff off so it doesn't come apart in the
float bowl and cause a problem later on....
So I stuck the float in a jar of E10 gas and will let it soak awhile
It should fall apart and peel off, then I can redo the attachment
and float adjustment using small star washers to lock it in place....
Only took two days....
But it cleaned up nicely with a toothbrush...
Except I got too rough with it stuffing it back in the bowl,
And busted it....
But I have two more "Dependables" on the shelf, so I'm good to go....
Started setting up the "Snap" throttle for the Linkert...
Looks good so far, let's see how it looks on the bike....
The throttle cable I want to use has a 5/16" thread, and the throttle grip
has a 3/8" thread....
So I chucked a 3/8" fine bolt in the vise and drilled it at 17/64",
and tapped it for the 5/16" course thread I needed....
Chopped off a half inch and it all went together nicely....
More Later....
